Hug Your Cat Today!

It’s Tuesday, right? Yes, it’s Tuesday. Sorry – I am SO tired!  For some reason on Sunday nights I have a difficult time falling asleep. I can nod off in my chair while watching TV, but the moment my head hits the pillow my brain goes into overdrive and I’m wide awake.  I tossed and turned, unable to get comfortable for quiet a long time. I counted backwards from 100, which often does the trick, but this time I did it 4 times before I gave up.  At some point I dozed off, only to wake an hour later, and it all started over again. Often when that happens, I have a difficult time waking up, since I may have only been asleep for a couple of hours. Yesterday morning my eyes popped open at 4:30 and I knew it was over. My alarm was due to ring at 5:00 anyway, so I got up and stayed that way until nearly 11:00 last night. To say that I am betting this will be a very long day would be betting on a major understatement. *yawn* Anyone else face Tuesdays with this issue, or is it just me?

Verse of the Day

June 4, 2019

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Romans 10:14

Thoughts on the Verse of the Day

Since “calling on the name of the Lord” is essential for salvation, then what is going to happen if we don’t speak about Jesus with those who do not know him? We must share Jesus with everyone who will listen. That “someone preaching to them” must be us!

Hug Your Cat Day – For those of us who love our cats, this is a good day.  Our kitties are cozy, huggy, snuggle babies who just want to be loved.  Some cats allow you a little bit of petting time, then nonchalantly wander off – as if they are doing us a favor.  Other cats are true huggers and just want to settle into a lap for a long nap.  Go ahead and give your cat a big, furry hug.  For the dog lovers – hugging our dogs is good too, they deserve it, but today it is about the cats!

Old Maid’s Day
In 1946 – or about then anyway – WWII was over, and millions of soldiers were coming home.  There was a huge increase in marriages.  At some point during this time someone commented that there were plenty of Maidens waiting for the returning GIs.  These ladies weren’t getting any younger while they waited.  The long war had disrupted many relationships, and many of the GI’s didn’t return home.  Dances and other social events were held to bring together the returning soldiers and the many unmarried ladies.  It is from this that Old Maid’s Day came about.  For the women out there looking for your Mr. Right, don’t give up.  It’s never too late to find love.

Food Celebration of the Day –

National Applesauce Cake Day – Today is a time to enjoy an old and often forgotten goodie. It’s a good day to bake an Applesauce Cake! I remember my Grandma H. used to make an applesauce cake once in awhile, and my other Grandma would make applesauce cookies.  Of course, they both made these treats with applesauce from the apples that grew on the trees in their yard.  You just don’t get better applesauce than that!  Enjoy some delicious, apple/cinnamon goodness today!

National Cheese Day – As if you needed another reason to eat it, experts say having cheese at the end of the meal is good for preventing tooth decay!  I’ve never heard that before today, to be honest, but heck, if it’s good for our teeth we should indulge!

It’s just as well that it is a quiet celebration day. Some days we just need to enjoy the quality of a couple over the quantity of a pages of reading. I’m suddenly feeling pretty nostalgic for my Grandma H’s applesauce cake. Do certain treats take you back to childhood and happy memories? Let’s ponder that. God bless you and I’ll see you soon.
