I’m Pretty Sleepy – I Think I need a Mulligan, Do You?

It’s Thursday! Don’t you just love it? Well, OK, you may not love it as much as I love it, since today is my Friday. If yesterday afternoon’s interview went as well as I hope that it did, this will not be my Friday for long, since the one thing I will be giving up will be my four-day work weeks. I have worked four-day weeks for so many years I have lost count. I think I started that back in 1996, maybe even as far back as 1993. And I have loved it! This job has so many more benefits than where I currently work that it will be worth the change. I admit that it will take a bit of adapting, but I think it’s worth it.

I have to share a story I heard yesterday with you – and this is a story told to my hubby that he heard directly from the storyteller.  I know I have made fun of “snowflakes” who can’t handle any emotional upheaval in their lives. Heck they often can’t handle the THOUGHT of emotional upheaval, other people’s opinions if they disagree with their own, or even the presence of a red hat because it reminds them of our wonderful President. Well, this person owns a landscaping company and was opining how difficult it is to find reliable, consistent, dependable employees. Yesterday’s case in point was a no call/no show worker who had suffered a break-up with his girlfriend, stayed up all night crying and just couldn’t bring himself to get up and go to work. Oh, please. I suffered through my husband of 22 years leaving me for another woman, after years and years of cheating, and I got myself out of bed and onto that ferry to go to work, in spite of having cried all night. What an amateur! For the love of everything logical, grow up! Be a man/woman/whatever and stop it. Just STOP IT! You are making the rest of us lose brain cells.  Here’s the truth – are you paying attention? Ok, focus. Life isn’t easy sometimes. People are going to do, or say, stuff that hurts your feelings. Sometimes they are going to make you mad, others sad, and still others frustrated. You cannot curl up and give up on life, on work, on friends and most importantly on yourself, just because someone stomps on your FEEEEEELINGS. Stop it! Did you hear that? Dust yourself off, for goodness sake wash your face and blow your nose, put your shoulders back, hold you head high and do the responsible thing. Drag your pathetic butt out of bed and get to work! Geez. The last truth that you can’t see right now is that sometimes when these bad things happen, they turn out to be the best things that ever could have happened in the first place. I’m the perfect example. After unloading the dead weight of my deadbeat, loser of an ex-husband, I met the wonderful man I am married to today.

Verse of the Day

October 17, 2019

I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.

Mark 9:41

Thoughts on the Verse of the Day

This simple and clear passage cuts two ways: First, we are blessed when we bless God’s children, even if the blessing is simple. Second, we can rejoice when others do the simplest things to bless us in Jesus’ name, because we receive the kindness and grace of others and because God blesses that kindness with his overwhelming grace. Bottom line — let’s live to be a blessing! When we do, God is blessed. We are blessed. We bless others. In addition, when others are gracious to us, God has also promised to bless them. God pours his blessings out on all of us. In God’s miraculous economy, the more we bless each other, the more blessings there are for everyone!

Mulligan Day –
So, what is a “mulligan”?  The term is believed to have originated in the game of golf.  In the context of golf, it means to re-take a shot that was hit poorly the first time, without a penalty.  Over the years it has come to be used as simply being a “do-over”.  The purpose of Mulligan Day is to encourage people to give others a second chance.  Do you have anyone you know who might benefit from a second chance?  Maybe you would consider giving them a mulligan!  You never know, you may need one yourself someday.

Spirit Day – Nope. This is about the LGTBQXYZWTF movement. Not supporting it, not criticizing it. Choosing to ignore it.

Wear Something Gaudy Day – this is a fun one! Today is your day to wear something gaudy – to really stick out in a crowd!  The word “gaudy” refers to something that bright, cheap, showy or outlandish.  This is one you can REALLY have fun with!  For just the one day, ignore fashion and style and look for something to wear that is really wild and wacky, and will stick out wherever you go.  If you don’t have anything like this in your wardrobe, maybe ask a friend!  is your chance to really stick out in a crowd. The most interesting thing about this one though, is who started it.  Do you remember the 1970’s TV sitcom “Three’s Company”?  Well, the guy who played Larry (actor by the name of Richard Kline), declared October 17th to be Wear Something Gaudy Day!  I have to wonder what his motivation was behind it?  Hmmm . . . (this poor cat was so embarrassed about this outfit that it closed its eyes!)

Food Celebration of the Day –

National Pasta Day – Mmmmmm . . . Pasta.  Are there really that many people who DON’T like pasta in one form or another?  From something as well-known as spaghetti and meatballs, to macaroni and cheese, pasta has been enjoyed by young and old for centuries.  As a matter of fact, archaeologists have found evidence that noodles were first made in central Asia many thousands of years ago.  Pasta comes in almost 400 different shapes, and many have more than one name.  For example, wagon wheel pasta can also be called wheels, ruote, routine or ruote de carro.  Some other interesting facts are:  the average American eats 20 pounds of pasta each year; pasta is very affordable, costing an average of only $1.45 per pound; and Americans eat more pasta than any other country in the world, accounting for 24 percent of consumption globally.

I really reduced how many I wrote about for today. There were some international ones – which I don’t do. There were boring ones – if I didn’t care about them, chances are neither would you. And quite honestly, I was tired and wanted to go to bed. I didn’t sleep well the night before, worrying about my interview. I am hoping that by the time you read this I will have slept like a log all night long.  God bless you and I’ll see you tomorrow!
