It’s National Cheese Day! Don’t Mind if I Do! Yum!

New week, new attitude.  I spent the weekend having a therapeutic camping trip with my wonderful Hubby. He took amazing care of me, created delicious meals over the open fire, made me laugh until my sides hurt and put happy tears in my eyes.  My life is a very good one, and with some creative budgeting I will be fine on unemployment until I find another job. This will give me time to get a few projects done around the house that I never seem to have time to do, which will de-clutter my mind for the job search. God has a way of taking care of things when we are dragging our feet – even using poisonous people when we don’t take His hints.  That doesn’t mean I’m not still angry at the way things were done, but admittedly, those were the last faces I wanted to see every day anyway, so this works for my best interests.  I see that now and am getting a bit excited about what He has in store for me next.

Verse of the Day

June 4, 2018

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.

1 Chronicles 29:11

Thoughts on the Verse of the Day

Praise is the direct address of God that lets him know we recognize him for who he is, what he has done, and what he is doing. But more than informing God of his greatness, praise is rejoicing before him in his greatness and recognizing that not only is his grace without comparison, his majesty and might and holiness and faithfulness and righteousness and mercy and love and forgiveness and justice and… without comparison. God is God and praise is thankful celebration that he is God, and even more importantly, that he is our God.

Food for Thought

Hurting other people is easy – recovering from it isn’t usually, but it is doable. Our reward is in finding happiness wherever we may be, but the ones who issue hurt without regard for others are already reaping their own reward. It gets lonely in the end because that’s truly all they end up with – their moment of feeling superior and in charge.  It won’t keep them warm at night and it won’t look pretty in the mirror. The old saying that Karma is a bitch is really true – even if I don’t necessarily believe in karma as such.  I’ve seen it first hand in the lives of others who have brought hurt into my life and I’ve landed on my feet and happier than before. Their lives are pretty useless and doomed to failure on some level or another, and I anticipate it will be the same here.  It’s all about where we place our priorities – when someone tramples on others, focusing only on themselves, they are doomed to be miserable.

Hug Your Cat DayFor those of us who love our cats, this is a good day.  Our kitties are cozy, huggy snuggle babies who just want to be loved.  Some cats allow you a little bit of petting time then they nonchalantly wander off – as if they are doing us a favor. This completely describes my Itty Bitty.  Other cats are true huggers and just want to settle into a lap for a long nap. Go ahead and give your cat a big, furry hug.  For the dog lovers – hugging our dogs is good too, they deserve it, but today it is about the cats!

Old Maid’s DayIn 1946 – or about then anyway – WWII was over, and millions of soldiers were coming home.  There was a huge increase in marriages.  At some point during this time someone commented that there were plenty of Maidens waiting for the returning GIs.  These ladies weren’t getting any younger while they waited.  The long war had disrupted many relationships, and many of the GI’s didn’t return home.  Dances and other social events were held to bring together the returning soldiers and the many unmarried ladies.  It is from this that Old Maid’s Day came about.  I think that is SO interesting!  I often wonder where things like this come from, and this makes so much more sense with the explanation than it did before! Nice!  For the women out there looking for your Mr. Right, don’t give up.  It’s never too late to find love.

This Day in History –

780 BC – China becomes the first to record a solar eclipse.

1987 – After winning 122 straight races, hurdler Edwin Moses’ winning streak is broken.

Food Celebration of the Day –

Applesauce Cake DayI don’t think I have actually had applesauce cake.  I am betting that it is delicious though, since pretty much anything made with apples IS delicious!  When I was growing up my Grandparents had an apple tree that produced the most amazing apples.  I have NO idea what kind they were, but the skin was a nearly translucent green, very pale – and the apples were a sweet tart that nearly made my jaws hurt, but were so delicious that I always wanted more.  Grandma would freeze apple slices, and she’d dehydrate some.  One of the things she made fairly often were applesauce cookies, which I am betting would taste somewhat like applesauce cake.  They were a sweet, cinnamon filled treat that spoke of home and happiness.  If you find yourself with some extra apples and some time, maybe you can bring some of that rich and happy apple goodness into your day with applesauce cake!

National Cheese DayAs if you needed another reason to eat it, experts say having cheese at the end of the meal is good for preventing tooth decay!  I’ve never heard that before I started writing this blog, to be honest, but heck, if it’s good for our teeth we should indulge! I have every intention of doing just that!

It is time to go spend some quality baby time with my adorable grandbaby boy! I’d better get myself ready and get out the door. God bless you and I’ll see you tomorrow.
