Let Your Creativity Shine!

I’m home today and it feels wonderful.  I was able to make my to-do list, I have a time of day set that I’d like to have completed everything on it so that MAYBE I can sit back in my new massaging/heat recliner and take a little snooze! It’s not often I want a nap, but I really do today! It’s a goal anyway, right? Maybe I ought to put it on my to-do list! Hmmmm . . . I’ll have to think about that.

Verse of the Day

September 14, 2018

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Philippians 2:1-2

Thoughts on the Verse of the Day

Our call to sacrificially submit ourselves to others does not begin with our sacrifice, but with God’s blessings. The actual grammatical construction of this statement is more accurately translated when all the “if”s changed to “since”s! We are called to unity in spirit and purpose after having received all these blessings from being in Jesus! We are encouraged by being united with Christ. We are comforted by his love. We do share in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We have received tenderness and compassion. So how can we not share those with our Christian family and find a way to live together in his Kingdom in harmony?

Food for Thought

The world is filled with all kinds of people, obviously. Sometimes the most annoying ones who choose really different ways to eat, then turn around and act like anyone who DOESN’T eat they way they do as wrong or disgusting, and they go around being preachy and judgmental. I have been eating very low carb for the last year or so, and my husband has too, to help support me. Both of us have felt very low energy and though we started out feeling great, we haven’t been lately, so we’ve switched it up and started alternating low carb days with moderate carb days and we are both feeling much better and I’m actually losing weight!  People who are dead set on low-carb or keto as the only way to eat can be very belittling and divisive with their judgment without giving anything else a chance.  The same can be said for many, if not most, vegetarians or vegans, only the militant ones take it even further. Yesterday my daughter was visiting with another mother at the park. The topic of dinner came up and my daughter said they were going to grill either steak or chicken. The other woman recoiled, put her hand over her mouth like she was going to throw up, turned a bit green, and announced that SHE only ate fruit or vegetables that were already deceased. I assume that by that she meant fruits and vegetables that have already fallen off the vine. Um . . . OK. Meat eaters aren’t chowing down on animals that are running past at any given moment either, their food is definitely already deceased when they eat it. Geesh! Stop being so judgmental people!

Hug Your Boss Day – Most bosses have a pretty tough job. They have to keep everything going smoothly, make sure everyone stays on task, and that work is getting done while keeping everyone happy. That isn’t easy in this world where most people are unhappy about something a lot of the time, right? Today there is a way to fix it all . . . ok, maybe not fix it all. . . but to offer a bit of sugar on the sour. It is Hug Your Boss Day! Now keep in mind, not ALL bosses will welcome a hug, and since I have a brand-new boss, I’m not feeling comfortable with the thought. Now, my previous boss wasn’t a hugger, but I knew her well enough to hug her anyway, which was always a bit funny. I miss her – I hope she realizes how much.

Live Creative Day – We are all creative in one way or another. Some people can draw or paint, others write beautiful stories and poetry, and still others show their creative sides through music, cooking, baking, working with wood, or just being incredibly organized! I consider THAT to be creative. My mother has an eye for how to make a room flow harmoniously, where I just sort of place things where it is convenient. It’s all in what talents we were born with and how we use them. Today is a great day to let your inner artist out so you can show the world how you see, hear and experience it.

This Day in History

1814 – Francis Scott-Key composed the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

Food Celebration of the Day

National Cream-Filled Donut Day – Donuts are always lovely, but when you fill them with creamy goodness, that just makes them extra special.   The most popular cream filled donuts are chocolate or vanilla cream.  I’m betting that just about any flavor would be delicious.  If you’re near a decent donut shop today, maybe stop in and get one and savor every bite.  Any treat needs to be savored for what it is and not rushed through.

Eat a Hoagie Day – You might know them as subs or grinders. But in 1992, the hoagie was declared the official sandwich of Philadelphia, which many consider its birthplace. Since we started alternating moderate carb or sourdough breads back into our diets, a Hoagie may be a delicious option or dinner! Yum!

OK! It’s time to set my little timer and get busy! The faster I go, the sooner a nap can happen! Yippee! Have a fantastic Friday and beginning of your weekend! God bless you and I’ll see you tomorrow.
