I know that part of what I usually do here is be as happy as I can be, or at least positive, but I’m not going to lie, I am feeling really discouraged today. Throughout my working life I have never, ever had any issues getting a job. But I am going on two months unemployed and it’s getting nerve wracking, frustrating, and quite honestly, my confidence has taken quite a hit. I have had a few interviews, which I left feeling positive for the most part, but nothing has come of them. In this situation it is difficult to be peaceful and have faith that God is looking out for me – and while I have no doubt that He is, I can’t help but feel some trepidation. I’m taking a deep breath of fresh, cool (cooler than the last few days at least) air, and saying a prayer that this waiting game will stop and something perfect for me and my abilities will come through.
Verse of the Day
July 18, 2018
I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.
—Psalm 119:7
Thoughts on the Verse of the Day
Praise is integrally connected with our character. So for us to worship God, the intent of our hearts and the effort of our lives must show the determined desire to know and live his will. While we will never do this perfectly, grace covers us as we seek to live for his glory. But that grace must never be used as a pretense to excuse spiritual laziness or intentional weakness.

Food for Thought
Do you believe that there are spirits, angels, demons, etc. here with us all the time? Maybe other dimensions that blend in with our own? I don’t know how to word it, but the weirdest thing happened this morning that made me give some thought to this. Our living/dining/kitchen area is one open concept room. I was in the kitchen packing Hubby’s lunch when I saw him from the corner of my eye walk down the hall, across the entry and towards the front window. I waited for him to come over into the kitchen, but he never came. I didn’t hear him go anywhere, then suddenly heard him moving around in the bedroom. Um . . . wait, what? I went in there to ask him if he’d just been in the dining room looking out the window and no, he hadn’t been. But I know what I saw! I saw a human moving from down the hall to the entry. I sort of got chills. If it wasn’t him – what or who was it? And why? This is going to bother me for a bit today, until I can put it out of my mind.
Nelson Mandela International Day – This one is a UN sponsored celebration, and no matter what or who it is, unless it’s exceptional and directly impacts us in our nation – which in my opinion this one does not – I do not put any focus on it.
Take Your Poet to Work Day – I really enjoy poetry. I used to write poetry, years ago, and was even published in a coffee table poetry book (that I couldn’t afford to buy for myself). Not everyone feels confident writing it, but everyone should be able to find a poet they enjoy reading. An organization called Tweetspeak Poetry sponsors four public days each year – Poetry at Work Day, Random Acts of Poetry Day, Take Your Poet to Work Day and Poem on Your Pillow Day. They are all set up to make poetry inviting for people who may have very little experience with it and get them to dip their toes in the pool to see if they may actually like it! This one is a lot of fun because it encourages people to find images of famous poets that they like, print it out, and take it with them wherever they go today. Some attach it to a bit of a stick – like a popsicle stick or tongue depressor, so they can set it up and take pictures of it in various places. Now THAT’s getting interactive with your favorite poet! It reminds me of when kids take Flat Stanley with them on vacations and take pictures of them, only with a poet. I won’t be doing this – I have things to do around here and think my poet would just get in the way. If you have a moment, take your poet to work with you today! Get in the spirit and have some fun!

Food Celebration of the Day –
National Caviar Day – I have seen caviar featured in movies and books all of my life, and they always make it look very fancy and desirable. Seriously, I think of fish eggs as being bait for catching other fish . . . and remember how horrible it smells. I am sure that caviar doesn’t stink like bait, but it’s still in my head as being gross. If you want to give it a try though, real-deal caviar comes from sturgeon, but salmon roe is a good budget-friendly substitute. Fish eggs not your thing? Try the Texas version — it stars black-eyed peas! Since black-eyed peas are off the menu for me since they aren’t low-carb. Caviar IS low carb though – so for those of you who are willing to give it a try, have at it! I’ll pass. I just can’t. I might gag.
National Sour Candy Day – Do you like sour candy? I don’t mind a bit of tartness with my sweets, but too much sour and I feel like my jaws are going to lock up. Kids really seem to like sour candy though. I remember when my kids were younger they’d get packages of Sour Patch Kids, and other really sour candy, and sit in front of each other and see who could eat them without making a face. They got really good at it, but seriously, I never could. The second those things hit my taste buds my face would respond by scrunching up. I am salivating – and not in a good way – at the thought while I write this! Turns out that in the candy world it is considered to be the “fun” candy. Well, my kids certainly thought so. The sour flavors wake up the taste buds, giving them a fun and energetic feeling. You can get sour candy in soft, hard, chewy or powdered form. I’m sure there are some I’m missing, but you might be able to think of some. Though sour candy is not my favorite, since so many do love it, here is a recipe from the blog Marina Mind Body Health with what looks like a great option for healthy and low carb sour candy. Let me know how you feel about it if you give it a try!
I need to go organize my spice cupboard. It sounds like something I’m making up, but seriously, I have so many spices jammed in there that I need to dump the ones that are stale and organize the ones I have left. I might be able to actually find something I’m looking for at that point! God bless you and I’ll see you tomorrow.
